In 2026, the PVC Pipe Association (PVCPA) established an award program to recognize utilities in the United States and Canada that have been using PVC water mains for 50 years or more. We believe it is important to highlight long-term infrastructure performance. PVCPA is a non-profit organization that has represented North American manufacturers of gasketed PVC pipe for water, sewer, and irrigation applications since 1971. The Association publishes technical publications, sponsors research, and recommends standards on PVC piping systems which are recognized throughout the world. PVC water pipe was first used in North America in 1954. The map below and list of preliminary award recipients confirm PVC pipe’s resilience and suitability in all climatic and geological regions in North America: cold and hot conditions, seismically prone areas, places where wildfires are common, corrosive soils, wet and dry climates, etc. The 50-year award along with longevity studies and dig-ups confirm that PVC water pipe has a service life of more than 100 years.
To claim your award, first verify that your utility has been using PVC water pipe for 50 years or more and then email award@unibell.org.
